Development Highlights: Simulation

After the popular “Development Highlights” series took a short summer break, we are very happy to release the third episode. This time we give an introduction into town growth and related topics such as the cargo system and the new data layers.

In the Development Highlights series we show how we incorporated feedback from the previous game into the development of Transport Fever 2. We give insights into the game design and explain what actions have been taken to realize an excellent gaming experience.

As always, we look forward to receiving your feedback, and thanks for your interest in Transport Fever 2.

  1. Hi,
Could you allow the community to translate the subtitles of your videos on YouTube please. That way, I could do it in french for the non english speaking people.
    Thx a lot.

  2. It seems that the passengers will be have the same limited distance choice.
Tom said, how more destinations are reachable how better. When you connect a network in tf1 some far away destanations are still unreacheble. That is an annoying thing. In my country i can reach every destanation on the whole country. Why should some destanations while connected still unreacheble.

  7. Hello,

Thx for the good videos, to keep us informed and hyped ;).

Will the 20 minutes rule for goods be deleted. It was the most anoying point for me in TF1, due to lanes for coal or oil with ships doesnt work most of the time, because the time runs out.

    • I do think so. with the reduced number of city needs, the goods woould have to cross the map for the destination. It seems highly likely that the rule will be cancelled.

  8. Hello, great video, keep them coming..
I really welcome new overlays – especially if it brings more transparency into what to do to make city grow and why is it that people dont use my transports, where do they want to go etc.
Although new mechanics like noise polution are great, more transparency, that could be used to find out why things are not working out and what customers need, are even better and can bring transport fever to wider audience.

Personally i would really like some mechanic to set up schedules tables or at least to set up automatic even distrubution of trains (vehicles) on one line.
Also with that – noise mechanic day / night cycle would be great.

  9. Does someone have some information about the cargo simulation ? I read somewhere that cities demand only one commercial and one industrial product, which I fear will be really really bad as it really seems arbitrary and prevents us to build networks and lines that are interesting (e.g. servicing more town with the same train). Is that confirmed?
Will the economic model still be like in TF1 where you were paid for linear distance * price? I really hope not!
On the other hand I like the idea that raw material sites produce less than factories and you must expand your network to keep up with demand.

  10. Why, systematically, you make sure to limit the player’s decisions by preventing him from making mistakes?
no colision, impossible to connect a city and a factory when the distance is too long, when the demand is too low …
In TF1 I felt that everything was automatic!
The only pleasure of the game is to create train networks (aircraft networks are ridiculous because distances and requests are completely fanciful)

Each plant and mine should systematically fill the storage area of the loading docks in its vicinity.
Each vehicle should be able to load / unload anything on the loading docks.
Instead, you prefer to code distance/time/link conditions that completely squeeze the cargo and make it boring.

  11. Looks amazing, can’t wait for it to come out, love the way you can make multiplatform stations with passengers and cargo and love the one way roads and traffic, keep up the good work

  12. Bonjour,

    Cordialement,
    Un passionné.

    • True, on my Ryzen 5 2600, though not so high end but still brand new CPU I face big performance issues on large areas. 12 threads free to use, so why to handle only one of them? With even much higher CPU requirements in the new production, multithreading support is a MUST. Otherwise, the game itself will become simply unplayable with larger amounts of cities.

  13. Please make it possible to set priority levels on trains, so that a lower priority train will stop and wait if it is predicted to interfere with a higher priority train incoming. This would make it so much easier to build systems using shared tracks.

    • Yes! If no timetables are added (which are powerful enough tools to help solve this problem) , than please add this at least! My slow freight trains should yield to a high speed passenger train, like they do in real life (for the most part)!

  14. I think that the CTCC system (auto control on railway) can make railway more effective, which will trains to run after a short distance, instead of many red lights on the track. Sincerely hope you can add it to TPF2. thanks a lot

  15. Why does it take so much time for more news… it gets honestly a little frustrating to wait so long as it seems like there are not enough new features to show. Please correct me if i am wrong but other than better graphics, an unclear impact of “noise pollution” and the big asia/tropical theme… is this it?
The thing is: what i have seen from tpf2 is already included in cities skylines – but it seems to be way more detailed (eventhough being a different game due to being a city builder and no transport game)

… but well, i will anyway not receice any developers comment on this 😀

  17. Great items from you, man. I’ve be aware your stuff previous to and you are just extremely great.
I really like what you’ve bought right here, certainly like what you
are saying and the best way by which you say it. You’re making it enjoyable and you still care for to keep it sensible.
I cant wait to read far more from you. That is really a terrific site.
