Next game update in development

The realization of the next game update for Transport Fever 2 is picking up speed. After planning, we are now in the process of implementing the features and testing them in the game.

As announced, we are focusing on tycoon and gameplay elements. A small foretaste of the possible features:

More variety for tycoon lovers. There will be additional settings to customize the gameplay. The player can choose at the beginning of the game whether to have all or only a fraction of the total number of industries on the map. The remaining industries are then randomly placed on the map as the game progresses.

Additionally, line and vehicle management will be improved so that vehicles of a line can stop at different terminals of a station. This enables better utilization of the individual terminals and avoids traffic jams. We are also examining the introduction of waypoints for ships in order to be able to better control their routes.

Please bear in mind that the game update is still under development and the content may change. The concepts we are considering must first prove themselves in practice.

What is your feedback on the planned functions?

The team would like to thank you again for your continued interest in our game. Follow our social media channels to stay up to date.

  1. please just allow to turn off that annoying white overlay. why are you forcing it? its unplayable at night… game should not cause eyepain… i cant enjoy the game because of that.. as you can see on steam forums, im not the only one..

imagine all screenshots and promo pictures from game on internet with this white overlay on. because that is what the players see most of their playtime. that is what they get instead of nice graphics. blinding white nothing…

    that should be easy, right?
    thank you!

  4. Gentlemen, here are my thoughts on realism. Only locomotives should leave locomotive depots. It’s ridiculous if a whole train leaves the locomotive depot. Wagons, even if there are no car depots, should appear at stations for the required load, of course, purchased by the carrier (owner of railway infrastructure). Warehousing right on station platforms is just as ridiculous. These should be warehouses where goods are collected from enterprises through access roads, and not always. That is, there must be the possibility of shunting work within cities. And therefore the sizes of models of transport have to correspond to the sizes of houses and everything else. Intermodal complexes would not prevent one object where cargo is transshipped between different modes of transport. Ie shunting trains must enter seaports and port cranes.
It should be possible to send ships outside the maps, where different cargoes are randomly formed. This can be the basis of a multiplayer game.

    • Hmmm… there is no difference between infrastructure and vehicle owner. Warehousing on Stations is pretty usual. Not on open Plattforms, but Trucks often Load/Unload directly in Warehouses and even on train stations are usually big storage rooms. These days there are used containers more and more. So they have to implement container cars to carry different goods more flexible on the same train cars, trucks and even Ships. And the have to increase size of goods waiting in stations that the have same scale than vehicles.
Your idea about sending goods outside of map is great. Maybe with dedicated “custom Buildings” (trucks, trains) or “waypoints” (ship, planes), where vehicles disappears for a while (to simulate the time driving outside the map).

    • Good Ideas! Seasons would be great. Maybe with impact of the speed an reliability of vehicles depending to their condition. Vehicles should break down if they’re old and in bad condition. And they should do more often in winter time when it’s cold or even in summer when it’s very hot than in spring or fall.

    • The real weather outside the window would be interesting to implement at the player’s place of residence (by geolocation). Or introduce real weather into the gameplay using the names of cities on the map.

    Vielen Dank.

  8. Are there also economic changes. Soo does the industries popup at logical locations dependent on several things like infrastructure and resourses in the ground? Also import and export would make the game more realistic and complex as also passengers to and from outside of the map.

  9. Hätte auch einen paar Vorschläge.

    1.

So kommt meine ganze Familie ins Spiel. Später finde ich uns aber nicht mehr. Bitte plant eine Suchfunktion für Personen ein.

  11. This is all very exciting! I’m especially looking forward to the ability to have a line use different platforms at a station to reduce congestion. That’s how it is in real life at any train station.

I’d also like to explore city development. Currently, all cities can build up to be about the same size. But that’s not realistic. There are always major cities, suburbs, villages, etc. Can the game replicate this somewhat? I’d like to be able to construct local trains that travel within a city (any attempts at doing this currently lead to low ridership and low profits) and the faster intercity trains.

  12. I really wish there was some tools for traffic control, similar to Cities Skylines, which i miss the most in Transport Fever. Cars get stuck at crossroads because the lack of traffic-light- or traffic-lane-control, which has a huge impact on public transportations in growing cities. Of course there are AI-Pathfinding-Problems, which i can handle, but there are no tools satisfying options to get a better control of the traffic flow. This leads to the point, that i loose interest in using road transportation so far that i ingore it in my sessions.

But all in all you’re doing a great job and Transport Fever 2 has no real competitor on the market for me. 🙂

  15. Hi everyone,
I also play TF2 a lot (real days sometimes).
From the previous comments, I read that many players like me would like a more realistic simulation, and I don’t hide the fact that it would be great to achieve that.

I would also like to suggest some improvements or fixes to implement:

    – As a first point I would like to suggest a classification of the MODs: that is, I believe that not all MODs affect the real dynamics of advantage / disadvantage in the achievement of the objectives, such as additions of particular buildings, additions of road and railway signs and things like that, only for increase (as far as you can) the realism.

    – Second point I think it’s nice, that industries can (through an improvement mechanism managed in the game), the implementation within the industries themselves, of dedicated loading / unloading railway stations or loading / unloading platforms for trucks (for example: in the mines it is possible to implement – in case the player wants to connect this mine with the railway – on a graphic level – of the loading turrets of the minerals all within the perimeter of the industry itself) and not as now the addition of the stations available classics (that most of the time it is necessary to reshape the landscape surrounding the industry).

    – Third point, (maybe it is being implemented but I did not understand correctly) the automatic platform switch in railway stations (for example if platform 1 is occupied while platform 2 is empty, the train goes to 2, as long as it is possible through railway exchanges), or otherwise it would be interesting to implement (always at the railway level, or why not, similarly for other types of transport), a sort of temporary parking area (set by the player) and also managed dynamically like the platforms; always for example: if the player has created a series of temporary rest areas, for example service platform 1, and it is already occupied, but at the same time I have another one available, the train can go to that free, so as to manage a huge amount of goods / people.

    – Fourth point, I think it a bit of a waste and a serious problem at times (in game dynamics), being able to add warehouses in the stations and not get more capacity, because currently the capacity is evaluated only on the basis of the length of the station (and the what is a little incorrect or rather imprecise).

I still have some things, but these are the things that I personally would love to have implemented.

    Many thanks for your attention.

    A greeting

  16. Hallo,

  18. Worst problem is the bad overview of different lines, stations, and uptake area in a city from a station.
Everything is white and grey, very hard to see the different areas, I really can’t believe this design decision!!

Also cumbersome to display only line at a time printed on the map – almost all stats you display show ALL lines and it’s just a mess in a big city – only way to show just one line is to click one of its stations and select it there.
    Intuitive?!

Talking about cumbersome, we also can’t (?) deselect all load/unload-at-a-station-checkboxes at once – we need to click every one, and it can be like 15-20 of them. So many small things like that are making it much harder to enjoy the game than it should be – just small easy fixes here and there, but someone’s got to fix them!

Still very fun, but also frustrating at times!

  19. Oh, also, when you copy a vehicle, the copy doesn’t inherit the maintenance setting!
If it’s a copy it should, it makes sense!
So everytime you’ve made some copies for a line, you need to select them all and choose “very high” or whatever is needed for that line so they all get the same setting.
Easy to forget, and then you get lots of emissions in a city when half of the residential busses are in bad shape just cause you’ve copied loads of them and forgot you need to add maintenance again on the copies.

Again, small, tiny tiny, but very annoying things.
Stuff that should be fixed in just a day or two, but still are here after years…

I don’t meen to complain too much here, the game is very fun and relaxing, but it could be so much better with just a little bit of polish here and there in the GUI!
New features sound good, but it needs more fixes like this – I’m just trying to make the game better here by giving heads up on some examples. Reworking pathfinding or traffic AI or adding weather or day/night etc is probably loads of work, but I’m talking about the easy fixes that makes the game more enjoyable and accessible. The fixes we all really could expect to happen.

Good luck with the game, and also, BIG cred for not cashing in with loads of cash-grab DLC:s like so many others – these are devs you really want to support!!!
It’s really honorable these days I must say!

  21. I’ve read about many feature requests in here that would be nice, but one thing I’m missing so far, is simply to have people be able to drive to stations… Wouldn’t that be nice?

If you really wanted to go the whole hog on graphics, you could add “Car Park” as an option when building a train station, bus station, or airport for example…

  22. Here is a feature I would like.
Choose a point and direction in the world and place a camera there.
Then have the camera take a shot avery such and such time.
Then you will get a nice series of pictures showing how areas are developing.

  23. I would love to see a “blueprint” mode where you could plan out large segments of your road or rail systems before you have to spend your money! Then you could also adjust heights and routes before you commit. Maybe even have it so you can “purchase” the land so that cities/towns will not build in the area you are planning in.

Either way love the game and can’t wait to see what makes it into the next update!

  24. A couple of things (design fixes, really) that I would really like:
    1) Bus lane means, only my vehicles may use it AND vehicles of type “BUS” may use it. There should be separation instead. This way, I could add lorry-only or tram-only right lanes to the street fine tuning. Presently, if I add them, the game crashes as soon as I add a bus lane.
Also construction edges should be given the option of a bus lane.
    2) Road waypoints should be lane-specific.
    3) Passengers going from A to B might keep waiting for a bus heading for B even if another bus, of a different line but also heading for B, calls at A earlier. Instead, they should catch the earliest available bus heading for B, irrespective of the line.
    4) Bridges and tunnels do not work well with narrow roads, like 1 m paths or narrow ramps.
    5) Train tracks are expected to be 5 m wide. More versatility would be welcome.
    6) Building narrow road bends is a pain, and sometimes different segments automatically change shape and turn into an ugly v-bend.
    7) Whenever two roads cross, small angle changes can make the difference between lane turns being allowed or blocked. Instead, all lane turns should be allowed, never mind the angle.
8 ) updateFn() receives params and another object that can be set at game start. It would be useful to add a third variable, where I can pass some more data from the game script. This way, every instance of a construction could receive different data.
    9) CPU lags are annoying, that goes without saying.
    10) Build a signal on a bridge and enjoy the pointless “bridge pillar collision” message.

  25. these are the things I would like to see. Maybe there are mods that already do that. I did not see them.

    1. Construction cost be adjusted for inflation: A piece of track with the land should be >1000x more expensive to build in 2000 as opposed to in 1900 as it is in real life. Bulldozing a part of the city in the year 2000 and building a railway station there should cost close to a billion dollars because in reality, it does.
    2. Payment to be determined by max speed ATTAINED during the journey and not max speed possible – bring torque into equation in addition to power and also incentivizes unclogging lines. Alternately payment can also be done based on time taken for movement of a goods/passenger from one location to another as opposed to time taken if travelled as the crow flies.
    3. Allowing path to choose more than 1 possible platform per station
    4. Severely limit power output of vehicles past their expiry date. In real life, you cannot pay 10x the maintenance of a device and expect it to work for 100 years.
    5. Passenger platform to accept some goods like mail and special goods – this was anyway the norm for over 100 years. Allows for longer trains
    6. Premium fare structure for passenger services – first class coaches / sleeper coaches cost more to travel than second class/third class. Adding a dining car adds a 20% surcharge to the fare and things of that nature.

  26. Airplane waypoints. And, more important, some indicator of how many planes are circling trying to land. With other transports, you can see the backed up traffic if you’ve put on too many vehicles. But with air transport, it is almost impossible to tell if you’ve maxed out an airport/runway.
BTW – thanks for a great game, been playing since Train Fever and LOVE it.
